People often ask why I opened my own shop.  The answer is very simple.  I have worked in many shops, seen how they operate and make decisions about what the customer should have done to their car, and realized that I could do a better, more thorough and cost effective job.  Many shops who utilize Flat Rate Technicians will try to upsell the customer when work is slow in order to achieve a full day’s pay.  Sometimes needed repairs and maintenance issues are replaced by the shop owner attempting to sell extra product and services to the customer.  Many shop owners use “coupon tactics” to get you in the door, knowing that the technicians who need extra pay will upsell you all kinds of extra services and non-critical repairs thus completing covering and exceeding the cost of any discounted coupon offer.
