A part of Esmond Station Area Development Plan in 1986, Rita Ranch is a home for many military families that came from Davis-Monthan Air Force Base. This small community is home for 18,925 families.
Rita Ranch is located in Southern Tucson, Arizona bordering the small towns of Vail and Corona de Tucson. The Vail School District can also be found in this community.
The Ranch is a part of the Development Plan spearheaded by the city in 1986 for Esmond Station Area Development. It was named after the historical Esmond Train Station near the neighborhood of Rita Ranch.
When the city of Tucson in the Arizona territory had been reached by the railway expansion between the years 1890 to 1910, the Southern Pacific Railroad became its first route.
During the early 1900s, the rail line connecting Tucson and El Paso, Texas has been completed. Even today, the lines connecting Rita Ranch and other undeveloped areas with deteriorating railroad tracks can still be found.
The remains of Esmond and its dilapidated train depot, The Esmond Station, can be found on the East of intersection of Houghton Road and Old Vail Road, a mile down the Esmond Station Road.
